Dodging turnips daily.
I feel a Mystery Hour etymology question coming on!

It also suggests that the only two options available are Jane Austen or Malcolm Tucker. Which, frankly, is bollocks.

What’s easy is to heckle from the sidelines, criticise others, and make baseless promises.

What’s hard is providing public services when there is insufficient money to provide them.

Sadly I think a significant proportion of the population is now more interested in being proven right, or prolonging the argument in the hope that one day they’ll do so, than the actual truth.

Because:

1. Immigration is not an issue that affects most people’s daily life. They have far more important things to worry about, until they’re nudged to worry about immigration.

2. No matter how far right a party moves, it will never be far enough for some, and will be far too far for others.

They’ve clearly made missteps and their communication game is dreadful, but a key issue is that they’re not being allowed to ‘clean it up’. With so little headroom unpopular decisions are going to be needed, but every ounce of malcontent is blown up by a hostile media into a full-blown catastrophe.

Is it real hatred though, or confected hatred? I bet very few people could provide any cogent reason for hating him beyond media talking points. Those same arguments would stand for any Labour replacement.

And as far as the only credible opposition, Reform, is concerned, hatred for Farage IS real.

This issue is that nobody ever *could* be. It could be Joseph Goebbels and Farage would still be accusing him of left-wing bias.

The challenge now is to find someone who is a) good, and b) doesn’t give a shit what Farage and the like thinks.
