Maria-Theresa was kind of legend, though nobody ever heard a word from her. Propaganda was, probably, very successful, but the economy matters. Ceaușescu was widely despised. Now, even if the economy is much better, lots of people are nostalgic. Seems they need to be constantly told a success story

My grandparents village in Romania is next to the former border with the Austro-Hungarian empire, in Banat. People were envious on the economy, administration (land registration) & education of the empire (especially, the Austrian part). Livestock was stolen from Romania and smuggled into the Empire

The EU managed to do the bare minimum to keep Ukraine alive, but it's far from showing strength. When you are surrounded by bullies, begin seen as weak is dangerous. I agree it's difficult to rearm overnight, but Europe is wealthy and approving a larger package would have sent a stronger signal.

The EU managed to do the bare minimum to keep Ukraine alive, but it's far from showing strength. When you are surrounded by bullies, begin seen as weak is dangerous. I agree it's difficult to rearm overnight, but Europe is wealthy and approving a larger package would have sent a stronger signal.
The Russian and American strategies worked, key actors were scared. It's a weakness and the US will act accordingly. They will try to grab the money.

While Ukraine has hit another Russian "Shadow Fleet" tanker, this one is significant for two reasons.
The "Qendil" was hit in the open waters of the Mediterranean, 2000km from Ukraine.
And it's rumoured Russia's military intelligence head General Andrey Averyanov was also killed.
