I was listening to a discussion and they included Mike Johnson heaping praise on Musk for rooting out the government waste. Doesn't each department have records which are available to congress? Also, the Inspector Generals could have assisted had they been requested instead of firing them.

If I'm not mistaken, this was the procedure when Bill Clinton cut back the government to balance the budget.

Raise the wage base limit and Social Security won't face insolvency.
For the 2025 tax year, the wage base limit is $176,100 (which is up from $168,600 in 2024).
If raised to $225,000 or greater, reductions for 2030-2035 wouldn't be necessary.
And BTW,we've all paid into this "pot".
