Also u can have a flight with multiple airlines and have it be on the same ticket bc of airline partnerships (for example if i fly westjet then delta or klm after my layover it will probably be on same ticket). But again this isn't something u will ever be surprised by.

Everyone told you no but fwiw, if you ever book separate tickets, you would have to get your bags during your layover. But you will either be aware you are booking separate tickets on purpose or the platform you book thru will warn u about it so it's nothing to be paranoid about
