This was my favorite of the animated/moving props in the film,(I loved how the spine echoed the lacing in Elizabeth's dresses), and the reveal of the facial dissection was beautiful as well as being a perfectly timed little jump scare.

Do you have any English language resources where I can learn more about definitions and tropes in Chinese gothic media - and how they compare to Western representations? I have my own ideas, but they are half-baked theories at best.

The Butchering Art and The Facemaker - Lindsay Fitzharris are both good. I also liked Medicine in the First World War by Fiona Reed, I will take a look at my book shelf later and see what else I have.
