I expected better analysis from Wonkhe articles than a spewing of AI tech bro platitudes and dismissive of genuine concerns about reliability of LLM.

“Minister said 100k marching calling to shoot their leader is sign of healthy country.”

This reeks either big brain overthink or panic meltdown mode.

Blind guy has his tooth implanted as a window to hold a lens, and now he has better vision than me. Science, biatches, it works.

I got my Covid19 vaccine booster yesterday. Still amazed and grateful that scientists managed to develop it in just a few months saving millions of lives. I kept my first Covid19 vaccine card in my wallet for the past 4.5 years to remind myself how momentous it was for so many to no longer fear C19.

Found some old dustless chalk made by Binney&Smith (now Crayola) and it was…..good? Didn’t break when it fell on the floor, writes smoothly, colour still vibrant. Whatever happened to Crayola which now makes the crappiest chalk ??

We are at the lovely Gregynog site in Wales for the first UK Numerical Relativity UKNR-CCP international meeting, funded by STFC/COSEC! Looking forward to 3 days of discussion on building and strengthening the UKNR community !

As a physicist, I noticed the physics stories that get picked up in the media are the crazy ideas (eg “scientists believe we live in a black hole!”). I often wondered if this is the same in other fields. I think this story is evidence that yes, indeed.

My unpopular opinion is that by “dressing up” as professors we are part of the problem.

I am generally v. impressed by Deepseek and latest models LLM, but they still struggle with standard anti-LLM problems (my favourite is the river crossing puzzles which has so much corpus around the internet that LLM gets confused.) Here is an example.

I love it too! From Eckart Frank’s book .

I asked Deepseek to analyse the similarities of Blade Runner's replicants and LLM in the voice of a film noir protagonist.

The bad news is that I am in the 4th week of being sick with some kind of RSV/pneumonia. The good news is that I am convalescing in my hometown Penang.

This is an excellent article discussing the challenges of how UKHE fits into Labour industrial strategy. Interesting point is that the goals of REF is not aligned with it.
