Sliding into my invisible years with a lowkey solarpunk sensibility. Knitting, harps, sci-fi, gardens, public spaces, unionized public servant. Seattle
Professor Olaf’s Scientifically Accurate Fortunes is set up to disperse fortunes from the multiverse, candy & treats to the trick or treaters of Ballard. 🔮🧪

Humpy Not Trumpy sign seen at Ballard No Kings today.

Now I have an added appreciation for how this sign stays respectful to Humpy’s colleague.

At the Ballard No Kings / #goms rally. The Humpy Not Trumpy sign was a crowd favorite.

Wowzers. This book about the phone book is my bus/lunch reading today. It was written in 2010 and so it has an early cell phone, pre-algorithm take on phone numbers & information searches that is already disorienting. Now I legit may need to go lay down.

Might have a little cry of relief + processing how it has come to this.

Just earlier today I reorganized our safety supplies and found a bag of cloth masks. I don’t remember when I bagged them up because we finally had better options, but seeing them again sure did bring back memories.

Is there any good Moby Dick discourse going around these days? I just uncovered a few hot takes from the tail end of the last century.

All the cats have wanted to do today is come upstairs to the cats-are-here-with-supervision-only room & sleep on the floor. If it means I must lounge on a daybed all afternoon reading a book about walking around Amsterdam, so be it. I’ll take this one for the team.

My harp teacher suggested this sign when I told her why I needed to reschedule this afternoon’s lesson.

Hooray for pedestrian streets!
Today I walked from near the downtown public library to the market, ordered lunch from Maíz, sat down to eat, and walked back within an hour.

Last time I tried this, I ended up eating at my desk because it took so much time to navigate cars & crowded sidewalks.

I would totally sign up for Reports. But in my head I would say the name of the class like this every time: img.secondsale.com/PRO05285345....

A beautiful day in Seattle #handsoff

I was tempted to keep this corduroy vest with pocket puff that my mom made. Truly, the 90s were a magical time.

About to send a little red steamer trunk packed full of American Girl doll & accoutrements to two little girls who will love her.

As someone who does not even like going up hills like Phinney Ridge in a car, I do surprisingly well on Pittsburgh’s inclines.

The Monongahela (this one) seems less nerve wracking to me than the Duquesne - especially on the way down.

Then I will be sure not to tell you about how the inner lid is magnetic to help keep track of crafty accoutrements.

No, no. I’ll just keep that to myself.

Train knitting update 🧶🚆: due to train late, mitts are not only done before Pittsburgh but before Chicago.

This is good because both cities seem chilly. And now I must seek out yarn stores in order to find a new project. Oh darn.

Pattern: En Plein Air Half-Mitts by Diana Twiss via Spin Off.

The Djinn Waits A Hundred Years is so atmospheric and engrossing.

I thought reading it on a train would make me less inclined to be spooked by the haunted nature of the story. But no, it just made it all the easier to miss many, many miles of upper plains states scenery.

Time for train knitting! 🧶 I’m on a 52 hour journey, so I may have a new set of mitts by the time we get into Pittsburgh.

Then again, pattern mods to accommodate homespun yarn might mean I’ll need the return trip as well.

Plans today got scuttled by a bout of patriotism. It did make me feel better.

One of my favorite things about the downtown Seattle library is that it has a sheet music collection.

I am one of the latest in a nearly-100 year long string (haha) of Seattle-area harpists to check out this piece by Hasselmans.

Like this, but now I’m the parrot.

A grapefruit blossom is open! I was not prepared for how chunky these are and I love them 🌱

Cut back the hazel because now is the time to do it. Also I wanted to be outside taking care of something with a handsaw today. A win-win. 🌱

Hoping to put these poles to use trellising beans or something this summer.

Text from Dad: Would you like to have this piece in your home

One upside of illness in December was getting to dive into a stack of books I had at home. I really enjoyed all of these.

Wild coincidence that I was alternating chunks of Stories Are Weapons & Same Bed, Different Dreams in early December - but what an experience that was!
