Tragically, on what would have been her 37th birthday, Elizabeth died at the Tower of London after giving birth to her seventh child. Her death has traditionally been ascribed to puerperal fever and was the cause of widespread mourning throughout England.

#OTD in history, 1466, Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville, was born at Westminster. She was a sister to the princes in the Tower, a niece to Richard III, and the first Queen consort of the Tudor dynasty through her marriage to King Henry VII.
