Democratic candidates for the Tucson City Council were headed to a resounding victory over their Republican opponents Tuesday night, getting more than two-thirds of the votes.

The election means Tucson will have its largest group of female councilmembers ever once the new Democrats are sworn in.

The developers of a Tucson data center are moving ahead after the City Council rejected a deal for reclaimed water. Project Blue will instead use a "closed-loop" air-cooling system that will consume no water but use more power, the company said.

The Regional Transportation Authority moved one step closer Friday to asking voters to extend a half-cent per dollar sales tax to continue funding transportation projects through 2046.

The RTA Board voted 6-2 to advance a $2.67 billion RTA Next plan for voters to decide on the March 2026 ballot.

With all of the outstanding ballots tabulated, Tucson City Councilman Kevin Dahl has won the Ward 3 Democratic primary over Sadie Shaw by 19 votes.

The margin is close enough to require a recount after the City Council votes to canvass the Aug. 5 election, which is scheduled to happen Tuesday.
