Can Treliving be trusted to do this? I'd prefer firing him through the Olympic break and letting a guy like Pridham handle it.

The third period turtle was a thing again. The weathered it, but it could have gone sideways. First 2 periods were quite dominant though.

Do you have a reference for "huge reserves"? While there are likely deposits that may be of material size/grade, they are largely hypothetical and decades away from discovery/production. The article mentioned largely concerns placer/artisnal mining, which will never produce metals in abundance.

Firing of both is to prevent further damage...... assuming they can bring someone in more competent. It's seems clear that Tre/Berube don't actually understand what they have tried to do has made/is making the team actively worse.

The core here is strong enough to compete for several more years. AM, WN, MK, JT, EC can absolutely drive a top 10 team. They need a re-tool on D and depth scoring. Treliving and current coaching are not capable of executing this.

Fire Treliving, Fire Berube, Savard, etc. Probably fire the pro-scouting group. Name interim coach. Find a non-useless GM. Current management and coaching cannot be trusted to fix the mess they created.

I try to look at treliving somewhat objectively. He's had 2 years, but all the key contributors on the roster are players he inherited. Domi is the most impactful forward he has brought in, not ideal. Signing old Tanev is OK I guess, but he's had cap space and draft capital and made the team worse.

I like Laughton too. But just too much of an overpayment that was even a bad idea at the time. Carlo is irredeemable, GM firing level trade.

We traded 2 Firsts and Minten for Carlo and Laughton. Premium draft capital spent on bottom of line up players. Other teams would spend that on you know, top of the lineup players that may actually help you over time but no - all about size and mediocre performance. Shut up and take my draft picks!

Exactly. It's always been such a frustration to me that the leafs were always trying to copy another team. They never said "this is our style based on our players strengths, and we are going to impose it and play "leafs" style hockey". Always trying to copy other teams successes.

It feels like a a good coach should lean heavily into the strengths of AM, MK, WN, JT, and try to pad the edges to make up for whatever deficiencies that creates. Forcing your stars to play in a way they don't believe in never works.

Do you think Treliving has done anything in 2 and a bit years to justify keeping his job? Every major contributor on the roster was here before he took charge and he has actively made the team older, slower, and worse than when he arrived.

Agreed. You'd want to try to keep Cowen/Danford if you can, but can't rule anything out if you can get a good piece. Those 4 should ensure you are going to be good. Sell everything else that has positive value.

They've only looked passable against mediocre teams. Every time they've played a good team they have been thoroughly embarrassed. It's hard to see them be able to "find their game" out of it. Seems like major, systemic changes are needed.

The strategies are bad and the team knows it. You can't "try hard" your way out of conceding possession so often.
