I like the quiet scenes.
I enjoy taking nature/landscape photos and viewing those from others. Most of my photos are from Southern California and nearby areas. Also here for news and current events, minus the misinformation.

I was conscious only of this.”

Comet Neowise with the Big Dipper from Joshua Tree National Park. This is back in the year 2020, which doesn't seem like such a bad time now in comparison.

An image from one of the best snow days I've experienced in Joshua Tree National Park. I was postholing in 1-2 ft of snow in certain areas. I also saw snow at the park 2 weeks ago, not quite as impressive, but nice to see the rare scene.

A reminder in dark times: kindness, mercy, decency, and respect towards the least of us enrages Trumpists. It burns them. It’s like a mirror that shows them how they fall short of humanity.

Kindness and decency towards the people Trumpists hate is not just right; it torments Trumpists.

Public lands celebration #4: National Wildlife Refuges! Some are tiny, some are huge; some are next to cities, some remote; some heavily managed, some wild; some watery, some desert. But they're all worth caring about.

Wonderful image.

Some rain in recent days and I'll be heading out to the desert soon. Reminds me of another time when a thunderstorm swept through Joshua Tree NP and put up quite a show for hours.

An image from a memorable trip through Canyonlands via the Green River, full of wonderful sights and tranquil times.

Early morning in Yosemite Valley. I got to this area after I calmly (as much as I can muster) walked past a group of 3 black bears trying to break into a trashcan. We looked at each other briefly then went about our business.

Reading news reporting this past week has been especially enraging. I need a temporary distraction of calmer times to keep my sanity.

Wandering the sand dunes of Death Valley NP has been a favorite activity of mine any time I visit the park.

Dream Lake - San Juan Island, Washington

The San Juans are a beautiful part of Washington State. I spent a week camping there in 2014 and would love to return someday.

Wishing all a wonderful, stress-free holiday season among beloved family and friends and maybe not so beloved but hopefully tolerable in small doses.

This image is from my first winter trip to Bryce Canyon.

My first trip to Yosemite, a backpacking trip, was an awe-inspiring experience. My first winter trip there was a completely different, but still amazing experience that will stay with me for quite a while. The image below is from that trip.

Sometimes you find the oddest thing abandoned in the desert. Here's a perfectly good grand piano just sitting in the middle of nowhere.

A recent wildflower display at Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Nice to see the change of colors in the desert every once in a while.

My occasional mountain view on a clear day. The highest peak shown is Mount San Antonio, aka Mt. Baldy or Joat (Tongva), standing at 10,064 ft. I've made it to the top maybe a dozen times but it's been awhile since my last time up. #landscapephotography #mtbaldy

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS from last month in Joshua Tree National Park. At this point it was fairly faint to the naked eye.

I may need to take a nap for the next 4 years to keep my sanity. Here's a mesquite branch with the right idea out in Death Valley National Park.
