Since Trump won, and was obviously going to be worse, doing the morally right thing would have been ideal even if it meant losing the election.

However, if looking the other way prevented worse atrocities by preventing a Trump win, the least worst option becomes more murky to determine.

- leaving Israel to fend for itself while under attack, leaving it vulnerable to broader incursions from Iran etc., requiring reengagement to step back in on defense and playing catch up on a wider war footing

I'd be curious how much the least worst option differs from what happened.
- Israel is a third rail issue that could go either way in upsetting important constituencies in an election year (and Democratic campaigns are too risk averse)
