Maybe this is mostly me projecting though as I remember feeling this way when I was younger playing some mobile games that were very p2w, and feeling almost some sense of pride of being stronger than some other players that did pay, even though I hadn't paid a single time. Cost me a lot of time tho

I know the feeling.
I feel like some of the reason these mobile games hook people is because the currency they earn in game/buy is comparable to real world money, therefore making playing and investing into these games feel like their account grows in worth in a more measurable way.
