A kōtare outside my flat had the body of a recently-killed tauhou/silvereye in its beak, and was slamming it against a pōhutukawa to make a more bite-sized meal of it. I had no idea kōtare went for other manu

I've never seen so many tauhou all at once in my life. We left our apple tree alone this year, letting all the fruit hang/fall naturally. The birds have been going crazy over this, particularly tūī, pīwakawaka and tauhou in the last fortnight 🐥
