OK, where is this 3rd party publicly-accessible site?

Whenever I try to access one of these relay sites I end up at something that starts with 'https://bsky.app/'.

Back in 1988 I could post my own messages on my own computer until my bluewave reader could re-connect with the BBS. :)

Just fine. I keep reminding them how awful the Mastodon UX is. :)

Bluesky is centralized.

Yes its funny but it will be funnier when the boot comes down on this place.

Excuse me? Strange thing to ask on the Internet.

'How did you see my thread' would be a better question. I was searching for 'decentralization' because I'm a Mastodon user who is curious if the recent downtime and Bsky censoring now for govts is getting the message across that Bsky decen is a lie.

It would fail. If the protocol is structured in such a way that it requires vast resources to run an alternative node for even a handful of users, then the "decentralized" aspect is a lie.

Which, of course, the Saudi and Russian backers of this site are very happy to let you believe.

My advice is that whatever they do, don't incorporate ActivityPub's mistakes. The UX is so bad that xitter and meta could have a major scandal every week now and it would still not increase fedi's active user metrics.

OTOH, AT is centralized... just a turbocharged lie on wheels.

Yeah, um, this place is one big fat Saudi-and-Russian backed lie masquerading as a decentralized network.

The downtime was a piquant reminder of that.

But.... "you control your own identity". Except Bluesky corp can cut it off from the rest of the Internet because web sites must reference all content via 'bsky.app' URLs. So your identity is really '@bsky.app' no matter what screen name says?

It looks like a copy of the VW ID.4
