It's why I'm such a fan of a GVWR tax on vehicles. It disincentivizes big, dangerous, cars while also (at least slightly) recovering money proportionally to road damage.

There's a Back Bay parking spot listed for $270,000. At $1 every 16 minutes, it would take 4,320,000 minutes (8 years) of metered parking to cover that cost. The metered parking is both a bargain and a waste of valuable space.
