Yeah they're so fun to look at! There was a big list of like 100 different ones in the Uji visitor center! I saw a few of them when I was walking around there, but only took a picture of the Pokemon one lol the 1st is Nagoya, then Uji, and of course the final one was in Osaka for the World's Fair.

Here's a few more I photographed. Truly this is not even close to all of them!

Speaking of public art. Something striking about the difference in Japan is that I feel like pretty touches were everywhere. These are from Kushiro, a town known for sunsets and cranes. These are four examples of crane designs I saw but I saw dozens. On the bus seat fabric and more.

Now washed and glazed the eyes, he looks all fixed up!

Finally started The Summer Hikaru Died, pretty damn compelling so far! We saw a little exhibit thing for it in Japan actually in one of the Surugaya's we visited I think? I'm excited to watch the rest.

Almost done for the night. Burned up most of the fallen branches we had, now I hear tromping in the woods. I think the deer are coming for me.

To share some joy for you, I have the day off, so I started probably my last fire of the year, burning some sandalwood incense, and I'm listening to music while reading Lupin dojinshi and peeping these beautiful sugar maples of fall.

This is the comic if you wanted to check it yourself. Not a feel good story lol Content warning but, worth checking out if you're feeling, like I did, that not enough art was there to give you catharsis for the grief and helplessness of that time.

Since we're talking about animal crossing... this is not the whole track but this is not uploaded anywhere else and was my favorite piece of art that grappled with the pandemic in a way that felt real to me. The only other one I can think of was a comic about a unhealthy sexual relationship.

A video from last year of Toro enjoying a pumpkin for the season. I might still buy one but I've been tired lol

Still on this task, and I think Chansey's underrated in terms of being adorable and beloved. Look at them!

One more, this is a dancing tanuki to celebrate the local dancing festival. This town is called Kisarazu and it has a temple nearby called Shojoji with the grave of a tanuki that was honored by the Buddhist monks, and supposedly this area originates the tanuki playing drums on their belly.

Forgot if I shared this one. I visited as many tanuki as I could so I have a lot of pics of them lol This one is slightly off a major road in downtown Kyoto.

I made a very responsible purchase

@tanukisrevenge.bsky.social some tanuki for your day, this shrine is one of the few that have tanuki at the gate. It's on the river near Akihabara station. The shrine is actually for a mother of someone who rose to importance, so the tanuki by the shrine itself in the third image are all pregnant.

I wanted to share this from my trip to Kanda Myoujin Temple, the plaque nearby said that two of the shisa were very old sculptures moved here in 1990 to be put on this to revitalize and reuse them. I love the mix of old stone with new purpose and the ephemeral feel of moving water and plants.
