If you want to see a multilingual release done well, see Kelly Clarkson’s “I Dare You” duets. She LEARNED to sing in other languages and it sounds pretty good overall! Especially since she sang duets with native speakers!

So….. Apparently Flavor Flav used AI to record his latest single in a bunch of different languages.
And the Japanese version sounds truly *terrible*. The Spanish version isn’t as bad, but it’s still not great.
I’m not proficient enough in any of the other languages to judge, but…

I finished listening to the audiobook of “Soldiers and Kings” by Jason de Leon. I think it should be semi-required reading for any policymaker, or any teacher or social worker who works with recent immigrants from Mexico or anywhere in Central America.

I also finished The Snow Child and needed time to process my thoughts about it. It was good overall, but suffered from heavy-handed foreshadowing, insufficient character development for Garrett, and Mabel’s character arc never really feeling completed. Mabel is also annoying/demanding at times.

If you think Benny is a little… overbearing… at first… just stick with it. The Epilogue reveals a lot.
Hannie is a great character; the writing is phenomenal. Benny ends up really good in the end too. The end feels a little rushed, but it works. A solid 4 out of 5 read.

First book of 2025 already finished 😹 It helps that the audiobook is only 4ish hours and I had 2 hours of driving in the past 2 days!
Even Though I Knew the End was a good read overall. It felt short (naturally, it’s a novella) but definitely a good enough book to make me want more from this author

Finished both “How Dare the Sun Rise” and “A Magical Girl Retires” today. Both were relatively short reads and a solid 4 stars each. “How Dare the Sun Rise” wins bonus points for its accessible language level - as an ESL teacher, it was deeply appreciated. I might recommend it to my seniors.
