This becomes problematic when most of the domain scientists who created the original codes have either retired or passed away, and the computer scientists don't understand the science well enough to avoid breaking the application during the porting process.

At least on the industry side, all people are talking about is LLMs, which are very simple workloads. Lack of criticism follows the absence of complex/diverse applications.
