It's really simple when you break it down. First I clamp the Z component, so values >1 are treated as 1. Then I use it as the Z scale (the cube is 2 units, so it just scrapes the floor). but I want the volume to be conserved, so I take the height devide the volume by it to get the area of the face

I know geonodes! It basically reduces to: check some properties, do stuff to them, use the stuff you got to set other properties. Below I took the position of the cube (checking properties) to determine the cubes scales (setting properties). This way allowed me to avoid the slime clipping the floor
