By contrast even middling sf&f, even YA stuff today is polished and more adequately written.

I also reread two River World books, one of my all time childhood favs and yeesh. Farmer was a genius with a concept but a hack with a pen.

I’ve been re-reading some of my childhood favorites and it is embarrassing just how bad some of those in the “big ideas” were. Like i’ve read a Ben Bova “near future” (for 2005) book ant it is… embarassing. That’s the only way i can describe it.
