About a third of the way into the first one, I was like, "wut???" but then it all started to come together and I'm addicted to the series now. I need to feel connected to the characters in whatever I read or it bores me.

My nephew could relate to Vera - he attended Mass with his grandma when he was about 4, and cried when "everybody got a Triscuit except me!"
