But he didn’t listen, he just couldn’t see, That slowly but surely, he’d lost you and me. He cozied with tyrants, with bigots, with brutes, And danced to the drum of the loudest of flutes. His empire still stood, but it wobbled and swayed, For all that he’d built had begun to degrade. No longer a genius, no longer a star— Just a man with a website and rage in his car. And so, with a whimper, his legend was done. Not king of the future, not second to none. Just a cautionary tale of how power can slip, When a mind full of wonder falls into the pit.

But trolls came a-calling with riddles and rhymes, With stories so silly, so fake, and so prime. They whispered and laughed, “Oh, Musk, can’t you see? The truth is much stranger! Now listen to me!” So deeper he scrolled and deeper he read, Till nonsense and folly took root in his head. “The world is all broken! The press tells you lies! I’ll tell you the truth! I’m the wisest, most wise!” His rockets still soared, his cars still went vroom, But something was brewing—a brewing of doom. For out went the vision, the wonder, the spark, Replaced with the rantings that grew in the dark. He typed and he posted, he trolled and he raged, Engaging with people who should’ve been caged. He argued with bots and he battled with fools, And laughed at the critics who called him uncool. He fired his workers, he bought a whole site, Then filled it with madness and shrieks in the night. The world watched in horror—“Oh, what has he done? This isn’t the man who would fly to the sun!”

The Musk Who Lost His Way There once was a man with a mind full of schemes, Who rocketed higher than anyone’s dreams. He built up his companies, one, two, and three, And promised the future was grand as could be! He started with money from payments online, Then set out to build things that shimmered and shined. A car that was fast and as quiet as air, A spaceship that soared with the greatest of flair! “Oh, Mars will be ours!” he’d often declare. “A city! A future! We’ll all be up there!” The people all cheered, “Oh, what a great man! He’s saving the world! He’s got such a plan!” But somewhere, down deep in the wires and tweets, A whisper crept in with some shadowy feats. A message, a meme, a joke here and there— What harm could it do? Just some fun, just some flair.

The Coward’s Lament There once was a man with a knack For twisting up fiction as fact. He smeared Ukraine’s stand, While licking the hand Of the tyrant who launched the attack. He called the defender a czar, While praising the villain afar. With nary a word For the horrors incurred, He let Putin off without scar. He scoffed, “What’s Ukraine fighting for?” As missiles and blood stained the floor. While they died to be free, He grinned on TV, And hinted he’d help end the war. But ending, to him, means concede, Let tyrants take all that they need. To bow and obey, To give land away, And let cruelty triumph with speed. So history now takes its pen, To mark all the folly of men. It won’t soon forget The coward who let A madman run rampant again.

So here we stand with lessons clear, Yet truth too often meets deaf ears. A country strong is built with care, Not gutted on a leader’s dare. The rules were made to keep us free, Not bent to suit one man’s decree. And if we choose to look away, Then chaos writes the laws today. For power grabs and cuts so deep, May buy the rich more gold to keep. But wealth is more than what’s in hand— It’s people strong, it’s futures planned. A nation shrinks when fear holds sway, And leaders throw its worth away. Yet wisdom holds for those who see, That strength must lift both you and me. So ask not just what’s saved today, But what we lose along the way. For once it’s gone, it’s hard to mend, And history warns how these things end.

But deeper still, beyond the charts, Are homes and towns with weary hearts. Where federal jobs and aid extend, A lifeline stretched to help defend. The clerk who checks your mail each day, The nurse at VA halls of gray, The troops who serve, the ones they leave, All feel the cuts that make them grieve. In towns where factories long have died, Where poverty and hope collide, A base, a school, a postal wage, Keeps hunger out and sets the stage. A SNAP card buys a child’s meal, A grant can lift, a loan can heal. Yet strip them bare in reckless haste, And watch communities laid to waste. For every cut, a town may fade, A dream denied, a worker paid. The dollar saved may seem so wise, But look again in people’s eyes.

The future waits in labs so bright, Where minds ignite the coming light. But shut the doors and end the quest, And watch us lag behind the rest. The NSF and grants we prize, Fund dreams that lift us to the skies. From medicine to Mars-bound ships, Innovation starts with this. New cures to heal, new tech to grow, Are cut before they start to show. A budget slashed to “save” today, Will cost far more in lost decay. A nation’s wealth is not just gold, But knowledge bright and courage bold. Yet when we starve the minds that yearn, We steal from those who wait their turn. So trim the waste, but mind the cost, For progress gone is progress lost. And what we build, or what we shun, Decides the fate of those to come.

The planes must fly, the towers stand, With guiding eyes and careful hands. Cut the FAA to save a cent, And wonder where your safety went. The sick still wait in quiet rooms, For cures and care that won’t come soon. Slash NIH and cut the thread, And watch new plagues bring fear and dread. Disasters strike, the waters rise, The hungry plead with desperate cries. USAid can lend a hand, But not if budgets strip it bland. The parks that stand with mountain views, And trails we walk in peaceful hues, Will slowly rot, the paths decay, If Park Service funds fade away. Each dollar saved may look so neat, But what we lose can’t be replete. A land once strong, both safe and sound, Falls weak when leaders cut it down.

But budgets aren’t a king’s decree, They run through law, not fantasy. The House and Senate have their say, And write the checks we spend each day. No president can skip the rules, Or make up powers just for fools. A “department” born from air and tweets, Can’t change the way the Congress meets! Yet if they bow and let it slide, And shrug instead of stand with pride, Then laws mean less with each new day, As power shifts and fades away. For once the rules are tossed aside, They’re hard to mend, though hard we try. And what we lose in silent shame, Won’t just return in someone’s name.

The Debt and the DOGE The leaders said, “We’ve spent too much! Let’s save some cash and cut the fluff! And with the scraps that we collect, We’ll pay the debt—let’s be direct!” But debt’s not like a piggy bank, With coins to stack or bills to yank. It rolls along with what we spend, Not something simple we can end. If spending’s cut, the debt may slow, But services lost could cause a woe. So shouting “Save! And pay it down!” Might just make the country frown. The debt’s not paid with bits and parts, It moves with budgets, not quick starts. A wiser plan must lead the way, Not slogans tossed in tweets each day!
