Senate Republicans won't pass the budget put forth in the Senate, a shutdown is the result, which they are then going to blame on Dems.

Matt Hall is saying that Democrats will only get the supplemental to close the books if they agree to this bare bones budget that would cut vast, damaging swaths of the Michigan government. He's calling it a "government shutdown prevention plan,"

Per the Republican standard, the method of proposing these budgets was also offensive. They voted on it within the hour it was introduced; it was totally sprung on Democrats.

This is being done for the sake of eliminating waste, according to Republicans, though they haven't identified what they find wasteful. It's a ridiculous assertion because we have a budget surplus and savings levels are fine.

Everything else for public schools is cut (like free lunches, rural transportation, GSRP, etc.) making it a net cut of 25% to Michigan schools, which will be devastating (especially if the Department of Education is cut or destroyed).

It cuts everything except essential services: prisons, police, veterans' homes, revenue sharing, and debt obligations. It cuts everything else.
In the '25-26 budget, per pupil spending is increased to $10,025, which Republicans will surely use as a talking point.
