Gadfly of orthodoxy around colourimetric stimuli framings of colour. Colour is cognition. Make things matter.

Indeed.

Ekroll was involved with a wonderful paper on the subject of techniques to avoid “Illusory Essences”.

A key part of this myth is the *absolutely false* belief that the cones “measure” the electromagnetic radiation they are sensitive to. This is *outright false*.

In fact, we can attribute so much of our misunderstanding around colour cognition to this origin story myth.

A key part to dismantling the notion around stimuli - the electromagnetic radiation - as *colour*, is to focus on a multi-pronged assault on the myths we’ve been sold.

The first, pervasive myth, is the “Eye as a Camera” myth. Gilchrist has called this the “Eye as Photometer” myth.

How can we prove this? Quite simply; design a demonstration that is reasoned and logical that pushes back against this “stimuli as colour” nonsense myth.

Ok. Enough for BlueSky.

Anyone interested in the mechanisms can be pointed in the right direction by way of reliable papers.

Models” can exist as Cartesian transformations of stimuli *is outright lying to you*.

The key? Gradients. This means the *articulation* of the stimuli is absolutely critical to wrap our collective heads around how we’ve all been conned for decades by scientism.

First up… the classic. Notice how
