Quick studio update... This is the size of the building now it has all the construction elements complete. We are moving to the interior now, and focusing on acoustic properties and room tunings to start with.

Adelaide, the city I was born in & lived until I was 25 yrs old, had me cross paths with the great Ben Folds in the late 90s. 25 years later, he returned to play at the Thebarton Theater with South Australia symphony orchestra - in which I was in the junior symphony as a kid violinist. Small world.

This is our reverb room and this is special. In my entire working life in studios, the only studio I ever worked in that had one was Capitol Records basement studio. But that is temp closed for earthquake work. Today most use digital reverbs but this is a unique part of our studio in Mexico.

About 20 years ago, I got this 24 track hard disk recorder which is incredible. Today I was successfully able to hack it to use solid state storage, adding decades to its usable life expectancy.

Our recording studio is planning to have full Dolby Atmos mixing in the control room, but I'm going to delay this. One simple reason - until streaming provides musicians with a fair and equitable share of revenue, it is hard to justify the investment. Stereo works and CD/Vinyl makes musicians money.

Congratulations to my friend Marty Wilson-Piper for getting his 65,000 record collection from the UK to Portugal for the "In Deep Music Archive". This is probably the largest single vinyl collection I've seen. Marty was the guitarist from The Church for over 20 years.

"CD sales are experiencing an unexpected resurgence and are now well ahead of digital download album sales. Per the Recording Industry Association of America‘s mid-year report, CDs sold almost three times as well as digital albums in the first half of the year."

Our recording studio in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, has something unexpected. We have one of the very few actual Reverb chambers. Whereas most will just use digital reverb, we've got an actual chamber for this that can be brought into effect sound. Something unique to Troubled Clef Studios.
