Yep. My grandmother was a nurse around WW2 and my grandfather is a labor camp survivor (after refusing to supply Nazi soldiers). Their stories made... many things very clear to me. It's up to me to carry that experience forward as best I can... but inevitably many will forget

Yeah, now too many Germans are becoming racist and anti-immigrant again too. But it took mass media a long time to dissolve that resistance the education system provided. Which is a lot better than the many countries actively promoting nationalism at school by not questioning their history

As a German who moved to the UK, seeing the general mindset shift away from "our nation's history is complicated and violent. we should be nice, educated people regardless of arbitrary borders" was very jarring
