There was also a time where federal prosecutors carried with them into court an aura of respectability and integrity, with great deference paid to their representations as officers of the court. Generally in my experience, that reputation was well-earned. Not any more. Trump touched it; it died.

Republicans refused to convict him on impeachment. And they’ve gone downhill from there.
