They dipped into 50's tech to throw themselves at the frontlines. Do not be too alarmed about the grey or black market. It's exactly what sanctions are for, so they pay with their kidneys to get stuff that is way cheaper when legal.

They work, what you see right there is a drip feed. Illegal means they pay a lot more for far less. Without sanctions, Russia would flood in that tech right now, which isn't the case. Look at their Airlines. Airbuses barely fly.
