I am all in a sea of wonders.

Dracula, Bram Stoker

The vampire squid Vampyroteuthis infernalis, it's name literally means “the vampire squid from hell.”

Sounds like a Halloween nightmare, right?

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝘅𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆!

Yesterday I posted about how we don’t really know our biodiversity.

There are an estimated 8–11 million species on Earth.

Less than 15% are named and described.

Without names, their stories may never be told.

“That’s here. That’s home. That’s us.”
– Carl Sagan

Sagan was referring to the tiny blue dot in the image.

A tiny blue grain.

Mostly ocean.

Teeming with weird and wonderful life.

It looks calm and blue from space.

But up close, it's messy. Fragile.

Here’s the twist:

It's not that they’re really absent.

We just haven't been looking closely enough.

Well, at least some are inspired by real biodiversity.

Usually, I have Invertebrates on my mind.

But I haven’t been posting much about them lately.

Here’s the twist.

Ready for some untraditional seafood?

At least, for many European palates.

(Trigger warning: I'm talking about eating animals).

I recently went with my family to one our favorite fishing spots.
Sadly, some tourists had beaten us to it. Instead, we started to explore the shallows and came across these beautiful little gems, 𝘗𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘴! 🧪 🐙 🦑 🦐

No, I'm not posting science fiction!

This is the green spoon worm (Bonellia viridis), who belongs to the peanut worms or siphuncula and echiura.
