If you’ve assessed Miyazaki’s films as primarily aimed at kids or families, you’ve missed the spirit of them. Appropriate for children and aimed at children are not the same thing. His films are perhaps more equivalently intended for children and adults than any others.

Why one time? Why not yearly? The most privileged people on the planet can afford to give up a tiny fraction of the fortune they wouldn’t be able to spend in a lifetime in order to literally keep millions of people alive, the people who created that wealth in the first place.

Obvious all the different parts feed and build upon each other, but, overall, the world, the mechanics, and how the world connects to the mechanics are generally my favorite parts. Strange worlds and creative interpretations of their strangeness into engaging gameplay is the ultimate goal for me

I think the idea of days spent in an environment versus roll on a die with value corresponding to the difficulty of that environment is a genius idea, if roll-for-encounter is the system you’re going with. Ultimately I still find roll-for-encounter as the mechanic to govern travel quite lackluster

One of those books I’m so glad I read but am not sure I’ll ever read again. I get nauseous just thinking about that one chapter. I went to Big Bend last year and I think that’s about the closest you can get to experiencing the land of the book these days.
