#367britlit Mini Thesis: The decision to use descriptors rather than names is a way to ignore the delicate reality they live in, plagued by political issues. If people give someone or something a name, that gives it power and identity. Without a name, they are forced to conform to social standards.

I'm a huge comic book fan, and something about full page splashes with the main character shown multiple times to illustrate movement tickles my monkey brain.

Side note- this is why my computer made the embarrassing sound - not allergies

The comic book style illustrations really help to bring across the alienation and wacky nature of Ada Lovelace's life, and I personally love the high detail shots that have the perspective looking down at her, as if the whole world is looking down and they have high expectations of her #367britlit

Well, I'm bad at chess and bad at life, so sooner or late one's gotta give.

Senay has no safegaurds. No protections. In this society there is no greater crime than being an immigrant-- Senay and Okwe are treated as less than human, exploited only for what they bring, and deported at the first sign of attention.

The sound design is very good. Whenever there are stressful moments, they play the music in reverse, a very uncomfortable sound, and sets the motif for uncomfortable moments in the film.

I guess hotels are a lot like life. *stares into the wind wistfully*

One thing I'm noticing from the movie is the common notion of referring to Africa as the continent rather than the country that Okwe is from, and it's important to remember that Africa is an entire continent full of different cultures/places.

MT: Mr. Loverman's title and chapter headings represent the way that the same piece of music can take different interpretations based on what point we are at in our lives, and that it is a very versatile tool we can use to label and organize our feelings.

I feel less sympathy for Barry as it goes on, because like, for someone whose issues are entirely based in love, you really don't like loving people.

MT: Mr. Loverman explores the dichotomy of loneliness and morality in old age, seen in the main character Barry as he navigates his mid-seventies torn between the life he has built, and choosing to go with his secret lover of sixty years, and his best friend, Morris.

#367britlit BREAKING NEWS: MILKMAN SHOT

Middle Sister:
March 27, 2025 at 5:53 PM
MT.
Milkman shows us what it is like to be an isolated woman in an isolated community, and all of the pain and danger that comes with that. #367britlit
March 25, 2025 at 6:02 PM
MT: The society middle sister is in has become so polarized to political ideologies that even when someone has been poisoned, murdered, or car bombed, there is always someone to blame, and there is always a way to justify it, both of which always come to further harm the victim/survivors.

I'm sorry the Milkman, I'm just not interested in--

MT: The book "Milkman" by Anna Burns challenges black and white ways of thinking through political, social, and personal conflict, pushing the main character towards a more 'gray' thought process, as seen with the debate on the color of the sky, there is more to every story.

If someone is taking pictures of a 40 year old man who makes me uncomfortable from the bushes, and he DOESN'T CARE, I'm running away. Red flag.

The fact that Paul Marshall gets to have a happy ending because of Briony's lie is one of the most heinous uses of dramatic irony I've seen. I hate that little choclateer. #367britlit

Minithesis (2/18): Briony and Robbie share a connection in that both character's guilt manifest physically in the catastrophes that occur during the war; like the dying soldier who Briony lies to, or the dead family Robbie finds. #367britlit

Minithesis: Robbie going straight from prison into war shows how his struggles with reputation, being with Cecillia, and the impact of Briony's actions are still very much causing him issues
