You rock! But yeah, I get why the division lines occur in the Alien fanbase. Alien was my first movie, but I'd also seen the comics on the shelves as a kid at a local comic shop and that was the real starting point for me. I suddenly had context for the creature on the video box.

Experts all agree!

I mean... all of them really. Even Burke. Especially given what it's like if you really want to break it all down. Worst set up ever.

And regardless of which cut of Alien you take, she still encountered it, and logged it all.

Right, but as I said, the plants aren't new. You aren't going into that space knowing you will probably find an aggressive enemy down there unprepared unless you're stupid...

It's kind of interesting because if you think about it, especially with how they operate, they'd only need a few sacrificial distractors to be able to bypass the guns en masse.
November 11, 2025 at 4:21 AM
Totally, but she still had the intel. And... like... pretty key stuff. And beyond that, it's pretty clear Burke knew what was up before they even got there. But also, the plants aren't new. They're standard fare at this point. They SHOULD know what they're walking into, aliens or not.

I love Aliens, but it's holey for me.
November 11, 2025 at 4:18 AM
Yeah, I'm also curious as to what that fucking hallway looked like after because that's a fucktonne of acid.

Unless it's like three aliens just having a fucking laugh and dodging all the time...

If anything, the losses are more directly attributable to negligence than the aliens themselves.
November 11, 2025 at 3:55 AM
They were also wildly dismissive of Ripley and everything she told them until they lost half their team. Seems like some pretty egregious oversight for a well trained unit.
November 11, 2025 at 3:53 AM
Then you've got the rest surviving pretty well up to that last crunch, but the alien ratio is still stilted.

Said trained marines also disobeyed a direct order in a pretty wild way. Also kinda wild nobody said anything until that point, especially with an expert on the facility on hand.

Dietrich gets lifted, she kills Frost, the bag explodes, that kills Weirzbowski. Aliens take Apone and Crowe. Drake cops the spray. That's the first entanglement. Fuck knows how many aliens cop bullets in that first bit but it's a fair cop, right?

S'meyer and Ferro are a separate thing.

Kinda but not really. They suffer a loss in the first round because they weren’t ready, and that loss is only four dudes, after that it’s only Hudson. Vasquez and Gorman kill themselves because they get themselves trapped. The ratio is wildly steeped

No way! Cheers man!

I mean... I probably could make those.
