In what was likely at the time a very similar context, I learned the following expression from my first ever poli sci prof: It’s like shifting deck chairs on the Titanic.

It is frustrating to think that your generation is the one to see a thriving society with minimal race, gender, sexuality and class issues only for all of it to be torn down in front of your eyes. It is so demoralizing to see hate win so often. I guess it was just naïve to think we could do better.

When you spent billions and destroyed your brand to recreate 1930's Germany and got 1780's France instead.
