There's a reason most of the targeted books include LGBTQ+ or BIPOC people. It's not about protecting children, it's about trying to create a world they can raise their children in that excludes and erases the experiences of gay/trans/minorities. Fight back - keep libraries like Fairhope going.

Parents have every right to monitor and set rules for what their own children check out. They have no right to change what is available for other community members, including children, in the library. That's for librarians, who are trained experts, to handle.

Taking books out of libraries or moving them to less accessible areas doesn't help parents control what their kids are reading, it helps control what EVERYONE gets to read. It's censorship, plain and simple.

The Alabama State Library Board says "The new state code ensures that parents—not librarians or bureaucrats—have full authority over whether their child can or cannot check out books from the adult section.”
Parents already have that control. x
