For an extreme example. The gold portions of this kit was cast in an unattractive gold color. But the beam sabers with beams were cast as a single piece, blade and handles, in translucent yellow. Handles are supposed to be gold. So I painted the whole kit.

Honestly, when something can be summed up in a two panel comic, it's a bit embarrassing to be asking for an explanation. Academics should be embarrassed.
