She committed one of the most textbook violations of journalistic ethics with zero ambiguity and so ‘endured’ a one year hiatus between incredibly prestigious jobs. I feel like at the *very least* the media could refrain from then giving her deeply sympathetic profiles chronicling her ‘suffering’

I left a couple months ago in part because I was worried about a long shutdown, and while I don't regret it, I want to come back when I can be a double digit GS.

Leaving made me realize how much a lot of poasters aren't directly affected by feds eating shit and so don't care.

It is funny to me that this was basically the Sanders 2020 play, except the other Democrats running were actually willing to work together once they knew they didn't have a chance. Seems like pretty good evidence for which party is pro-social and can cooperate and compromise!

Since I worked for Chief Counsel my BU was a lot of attorneys who were been able to prepare to weather this. The median BU employee is a GS-14, and that plus being in seattle means there's a lot of people with savings and strong opinions on the shutdown

I'm calling my representatives and telling them to make sure Delta can't get government next time they've got a majority. Companies can't be out here taking Republicans' side consequence free.

"Politcs" is the name for how we decide what gets our scarce time, energy, attention and resources. Feeding starving children is political by definition because it involves giving them food that they wouldn't have otherwise.

I'd assume someone has at the university insofar as my mom used to have a job that was basically just helping faculty in one college write their grant proposals. The university had to have decided that the position was worth having (and then later that it wasn't)

Even in 3 it's pretty clear that their goodness is basically all Owen Lyons' doing and it's not especially likely to outlast him.

There's something to that; on the other hand, the first person I heard use that line was Yglesias. I think there's danger overindexing there.
