Did we get it right every time? Absolutely not, but we tried new things, and for the Devs, it was always energizing and inspiring to be there. Our community is awesome, even through ups and downs. At no point did I ever feel like "we need to drive engagement here", so heres hoping we return on form.

His sentiment mirrors the key thing about Blizzcon, which was that for Blizz Devs, it wasn't about tangible monetary return; it was to remind ourselves who plays our games, feel their excitement, and share ours. Sure, it was a big advertising platform too, but again... fostering community is better.
