#MWE Day 28 A Whole New Thing - Sly & the Family Stone. The title is not kidding. This debut definitely sounds different than what was coming out during this time. Stewart's eccentricities try to blend with a more contemporary sound but it's clear he is built different.

#MWE Day 27 Samantha Fox- Self-titled
Samantha Fox's charisma is undeniable and I wish Jive played up her campy, sexy side instead of giving her bubble gum pop. Naughty Girls is a classic collaboration with Full Force and her cover of Satisfaction is fun. I wish the rest of the album was as good.

#MWE Day 26 Plus One - The War & Treaty. The soul and country duo lean more into country on Plus One. It's a nice blend on songs like Love is on Fire but Can I Get an Amen is a little like a truck commercial. Called You By Your Name is a barn burner that is probably amazing live.

#MWE Day 25 - The Breeze Grew A Fire - Mereba A mellow, soothing, and beautiful album. The album provided a nice soundtrack for my walk this evening on the first warmish day of the year.

#MWE Day 24 - In the Blue Light - Kelela I This is a different side of Kelela, an unplugged jazz session at the Blue Note. The set includes songs throughout her career as well as a great covers of Joni Mitchell & Betty Carter songs. Atmospheric and beautiful, this is definitely worth checking out.

#MWE Day 23 Return to Cookie Mountain- TV on the Radio A dark and brooding album. It's easy to compare TV to other 00's bands but I feel like they had an apocalyptic thing going on on this album despite the "woah" vocals & fun groove of Wolf Like Me that other bands of this time did not approach.

#MWE Day 22 - The Album - Blackpink A fun and solid collection of pop songs, with the group trying all facets of r&b and other popular genres. "Ice Cream" with Selena Gomez and "Crazy Over You," were my favorites. I will definitely check out more from Blackpink and their solo projects.

#MWE Day 20 clipping - Wriggle (expanded) An energetic EP, danceable, playful, and cynical at the same time. All of the tracks are worth checking out.
I listened to the new songs from their upcoming album as well and I'm looking forward to when the whole album comes out.

MWE Day 19 Cruzados - self- titled I was inspired by another MWE post to check this album out. It starts off with 1980s empty sentiment but continues as pretty pleasant adult alternative fare. Seven Summers and Just Like Roses are the best songs.

#MWE Day 18 Who Let the Dogs Out - Lambrini Girls High energy punk, with songs railing against homophobia, gentrification, rape culture, and dysfunctional relationships. A bit didactic at times but overall a great way to rage.

#MWE Day 17 - Elite Vessel- Lexa Gates I really liked this album. Gates is like a hip-hop Amy Winehouse. She raps about men she knows will disappoint her and she raps about how she feels disappointed in herself. Stacy's Chips is my favorite track so far.

#MWE Day 16 Thugs From Amritsar - Pataka Boys Great beats and samples by Kartik accompanied with casual and clever delivery by PAV4N and Sonnyjim. This trio caught my ear with their single Black Sabbath and the rest of the album is great too. I need to check out the collective's respective work.

#MWE Day 15 Black Magic - Martha Reeves & the Vandellas A solid collection of early 70s Motown. If you are into the "Northern Soul" sound, you will like Black Magic. I enjoyed their versions of Something & Anyone Who Had a Heart. My favorite song is Tear It On Down which should have been a classic.

#MWE Day 14 - It Hurts So Good - Millie Jackson I honestly only knew Jackson from her appearing in many Worst Album Cover lists but decided to give her music a try. This album is a collection of fun and funky jams. Her voice is husky and cool. I really enjoyed this and want to check out more.

#MWE Day 13 Oido - Tunde Adebimpe and Bart Higgins. Oido is an interesting mix of ambient sounds and sometimes abrasive vocalizing by Adebimpe. Some sounds seemingly come out of nowhere almost invading the warm sonics underneath. Despite this, it's a soothing and intriguing listen.

#MWE Day 12 - Ana Bárbara - s/t I guess a challenge in this exercise is not being familiar with the history of a genre. I know next to nothing about Tejano aside from Selena . Listening to Ana Bárbara, it was mostly enjoyable but kind of samey. "Nada" and "Pideme Perdőn," are highlights.

#MWE Day 11 - Mucho Mejor - Ruben Blades What sounds like a pleasant collection of salsa is actually a scathing set of songs about heartbreak when you read the lyrics. "I also suffered for you, Until I died" Sheesh Ruben! There are a few hopeful songs about faith but someone broke his heart 😭

#MWE Day 10 - Showbiz! - MIKE I'm operating on 4 hours of sleep today (Go Birds!) so Showbiz! was my speed. A woozy and sometimes bleak album but through each harrowing tale, there's some hope. The samples and beats are great too. You're the Only One Watching and Zombie pt 2 are highlights

#MWE Day 9 - Hurry Up Tomorrow- The Weeknd. I think the album is just there. Nothing really stands out and not even guest spots by Justice and Giorgio Moroder can light a fire under the pacing of the songs. Woozy soundscapes that are like the sonic version of The Wolf of Wall Street car scene.

#MWE Day 8 - 3Cag - Kneecap I think the bilingual Irish and English is a selling point as well as the anarchist attitude. Something about it makes me think this is more young guys saying cheeky rebellious things than something more substantial which maybe the point. CEARTA is a banger though.

#MWE Day 7 - Lower - Benjamin Booker I didn't realize that this is only Booker's third album. It's a great one, starting off with some cacaphonous and intense songs, settling in for more familiar territory and then back into bleak with Same Kind of Lonely. The uncertainty and danger is the point.

#MWE Day 6 - NGL - JoJo An enjoyable EP of upbeat and downtempo R&B. JoJo's voice is powerful but most of the songs are too familiar . She really sells the songs as well as she can and the song"Porcelain," definitely a highlight. I liked NGL but it wasn't something that will stay with me.

#MWE Day 5 - Eusexua - FKA Twigs So far, I don't know that I enjoy this album as much as Caprisongs but it is a good mix of avant garde and dancy pop. The choices made on "Childlike Things" are some real choices but that weirdness aside, a pretty good album that I hope grows on me.

#MWE Day 4 Acts of Faith - Sault While Acts may be a glorified Cleo Soul album, there's nothing wrong with that. Soul's voice and the lyrics are comforting; the arrangements are as outstanding as usual for a Sault album. For those seeking a calm record to put on during stressful days like these.

#MWE Day 3 - Goyard Ibn Said by Ghais Guevara I am late to the Guevara party but better late than never. His first studio album is a concept album and is exciting in both sound and lyric. Pop culture references and smart turns of phrase bounce off his brilliant production.
