Two tips for teaching exam classes: 1. TELL them about the most effective strategies to use when they sit down to revise alone. We use a 'revision map' for each subject 2. Then SHOW them: live model using 1st person what revision looks & sounds like. It's easier said than done.

When defining great teaching, it's vital to (1) link it to science of learning/evidence & (2) make it visible so that we can better share w/ others what it looks like in practice. Loved teaming up w/ @BtechSchool Sat am in NYC to do just that Huge thx @sweelen24

Just finished this book by @m_chiles. Loved the attention given to the subtleties of #powerfulquestioning and examples of what it looks and sounds like in the classroom. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Here's another useful study: Recht and Leslie (1988). Knowledge has more impact than reading ability on how well Ss understood a story about baseball.

Feedback=one of the most effective strategies we have—if done right, listened to, time to respond. Back this week at Kensington Sch Barcelona to discuss kind, useful & specific #feedback with Ss, recap #spacedpractice, #metacognition in #CPD, parents too. I love my job!

I'm (still) a fan of #knowledgeorangisers as tool (not curriculum) as explained below. Handy for spaced #retrievalpractice; Ss find them useful (esp #EAL in my sch) & perfect for paired quizzing. Must model. Grt for sharing w/ support staff who may work across many classes.

Teaching Ss the importance of thinking hard, spaced practice & #metacognition (thinking about learning) is a whole school effort we must model as adults #parents & #teachers. Grt to be back at Kensington School Barcelona this week for follow-up #CPD, Ss & parent workshops.

Students @Juliansprimary are #remotelearning about learning better, #memory. Fill-in-the-blanks are grt way to remember a quote, b/c they make u think hard to recall what's missing. That's #retrievalpractice Next step: How does this quote relate to you? #ConnectTheDotsEd
