Have flown the coop, landing here. Writer (former news & features reporter), reader, friend of the arts and nature. Photos taken by me unless it's a repost.
It's not over yet. Red.

I had a bit of fun with this year's carved pumpkins. May your Halloween be spooky not horrid and may we welcome the thin veil between worlds. #Halloween #Samhain #pumpkins

duplex :)

Actually, there were even more holes bored into this dead tree, most likely by Pileated woodpeckers who live in this forest. I love seeing the bits of nesting material on the edges.

Osprey landing at nest atop light platform at a high school ball field in Western Washington. Second photo parent and two chicks (click to enlarge). I've worried if this nesting pair would return after migration, but here they are and successful! #birds #osprey #nest #photography #iPhone #nature

Stopped to savor this beautiful scene of tree, sky, and water on a walk the other day. There is still so much beauty in this world. Wishing peace-filled moments in nature for us all in these troubled times.

Mama hairy woodpecker feeding her fledgling at the suet feeder. Taken through a windowpane and with an iPhone so not the sharpest image, but cool moment, yes? I love seeing who comes to visit this time of year.

Somebody created a goofy face out of a tree downed in a storm. I love walking in this neighborhood forest because it's beautiful and invigorating but also inspires labyrinths made of rocks, fairy doors, and toy creatures clinging to branches. It's a happy place.

Forest light and the scent in the air refresh me so much. Last time I was here, a Pileated woodpecker was busy hammering while three ravens carried on an animated conversation.

Today honoring Robert E. Kells, who died 25 Dec 1944, and was buried in a mattress cover and blanket in Belgium following fierce battles in Hurtgen Forest on the Belgium/German border. He was 26, the son of my great aunt. A few years later his body was brought home. This day is for the fallen.

Love this Rosie the Riveter headwrap and sandwich sign, as well as the handmade Thank You to Cory Booker sign at the small town #HandsOff #protest I went to in Western Washington. No idea of numbers because it was spread along the highway. Modest but mighty protests everywhere!
