Recognizing this doesn’t invalidate the substance of a person’s critiques. But it shines a light on the hurt that has always been behind them. It reminds us that there have always been - and still are - better paths available to them

It’s an example of something very common: a person with tremendous darkness put inside them seeks refuge in the act of finding and attacking the darkness in others. It’s a way to shore up their frail sense of intrinsic goodness and feel powerful against forces that once made them feel powerless
