Headset vrc is only restricted because previous models didn't really have the horsepower to run more advanced models. I'd be astounded if steam wasn't doing a ton of testing to make sure vrc worked well. It is easily the vr app with the highest use time

You likely would not have to use the dongle with your current setup. The on board processing is likely on par with your desktop.

The dongle is just to stream video from a more powerful pc to enable it to run things that need more horsepower than the headset can provide on its own, as well as likely saving battery power too since you're not using headset power to crunch the numbers. So it's a lot like the quest in that way.
