for reasons i cannot fathom, my stomach is responding quite poorly to the shot of espresso, cup of coffee, penne arrabiatta, americano, leftover fish vindaloo, and cup of decaf that i have (thus far) subjected it to this afternoon/evening.

How can you not be romantic about baseball?

This is probably not going to land with my ~12 followers, but I am having a fantastic time with Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast: a cozy tabletop RPG set in a BnB where it's always September 15th, soliciting and romancing are not allowed, and there's always room for more (except Gertrude)

Now I may rest

...what's that, it's 1 pm in the middle of a workday?

ahh yes, it's that time of the year* where my various conda environments have become borked beyond recognition, and now it's time to install everything from scratch. what a fun time.

with my extensive training in astrophysics and statistics, I can confidently say the dodgers are on track to win 162 games (+0, -161, 100% CI) this season! ⚾️

I am playing in a softball league, having not played a sport since age 14. I have been to 2 practices. My body is broken.

As someone who has sent several students to this program, I can attest that CASSI is one of the best REUs in astronomy! Applications due January 31st!

At LAX to begin the schlep to #AAS243, and we are apparently on the Astronomer Express. Probably the highest density of nerds ever assembled en route to New Orleans.

So admittedly I haven't read tonight's paper about training a LLM to answer astronomy questions, but I'm 100% sure that their model shouldn't be claiming the Earth is flat after one question (to say nothing of the incorrect answer)

Haha, super excited to *checks notes* spend all of next week at a conference with 3000 astronomers, not worried at all, nope! 🔭
The next week will see the second-highest COVID levels of the pandemic so far. If you are sick, please stay home if you can. If you have to go into work, please wear an N95 mask to protect others. If you are an employer or political leader, please increase paid sick days.

Follow-up: look at my crappy LMC shot! I love it!

Any other Astronomers🔭 have tips for iPhone-based astrophotography? Goal is to get a shot of the LMC while I'm here.

I put together an all-star group of designers to discuss why so many awesome games on social justice topics are coming out right now:

Journals should have a setting where I can limit communication to only happen during business hours.

I don't want updates on my manuscript at 6am on a Saturday.

Even if you're not interested in backing Molly House, this piece is worth a read just to expand your mind about what games can be about, and how they can make you feel.

(Warning: this got me to back Molly House.)
There is nothing quite like Molly House, a board game that makes love and sex as worthy of consideration as war or economic optimization. My preview: spacebiff.com/2023/10/17/m...
