I know media literacy and critical thinking is at an all time low but these stunt queens are pulling stunts and shows and I need everybody to wake tf up.

“Lucky Ghost” — which was also titled “Lady Luck” — is the first of their trove of Black Hollywood history to successfully be restored.

It was directed by (white man, of course) William Beaudine WHO, I learned, was the asst director to D.W. Griffith on “Birth of A Nation” (1915).

I haven’t been able to get over this fact shared by the preservationist - Apparently, while filming “School Daze” I believe, Giancarlo & Larry came into possession of a box of old, black-and-white movies with all-Black casts. In the 90s, they donated the prints to the Film Academy to be restored.

A couple weeks ago, @mychaelc.bsky.social and I saw this screening of a 1942 “race picture” called “Lucky Ghost” at the Academy Museum. Restored in 4k from a 16mm print — thanks to Giancarlo Esposito and Laurence Fishburne! 🤯🧵 #filmsky
