Hello I am Tretias. I am here to inform the world with my views of it. I hope to be an influence on both politics and culture. As such I should probably state my position on politics. I am a center-leftist.
Basically everyone gets what they want. The Chagossians get to return home and do whatever they please, with added British protection and representation in the British Parliament, the British keep the islands but let them do pretty much whatever they like, and the US gets to keep its base.

I said the same thing on anouther similar post of yours but my idea is that the Chagossians should be allowed to return and the islands should remain a British Territory, but be given equal representation as any proper part of the UK. Along with a large degree of autonomy to do whatever they like.

Personally I think that the UK should look into giving all its Territories representation, but most Territories don't seem to care enough.

I don't see why not.

It would only effect this particular instance, there would not be much reason to be against it.
January 19, 2025 at 8:33 AM
I'm saying there is no reason that they couldn't make a treaty like that. Nothing's says they couldn't.
January 18, 2025 at 9:32 PM
If anything that just makes your whole argument a lot weaker. There is nothing in there that says this treaty couldn't work. It would be unorthodox sure, but nothing more.
January 18, 2025 at 7:36 PM
The VCLT does not state that only humanitarian treaties can unilaterally irrevocable.
January 18, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Actually yes it could. There is nothing stating that it could not do this.
January 18, 2025 at 6:10 PM
In particular if those treaties state they cannot be unilaterally revoked.
January 18, 2025 at 5:09 PM
I'm talking about in the event of rejoining.
January 18, 2025 at 5:05 PM
In theory the EU could pass a law that could prevent it's members from unilaterally revoking cerian treaties made with itself and each other. They should probably do this anyways.
January 18, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Actually no. The EU law takes precedent over domestic laws too. In fact EU was one of the few exceptions from parliament's absolute sovereignty.
January 18, 2025 at 3:18 PM
In all reality the UK isn't the only one with this problem. There are many in other countries who want to withdraw from the EU as well. I think there was a poll in the Netherlands that showed a huge (though minority) amount who wanted to leave.
January 18, 2025 at 3:05 PM
EU law takes precedent over national law. The EU just has to say that the UK cannot do that and thus they can't .
January 18, 2025 at 3:02 PM
I think they could fix this by making a treaty that prevents the UK from leaving the EU for another 15 years (with extreme exceptions). It would eliminate this threat for 15 years. Honestly the EU might want to make this a law for all member states.
January 18, 2025 at 1:25 AM
I think a fix for this is to make a treaty that will prevent the UK from leaving for another 15 years (maybe with some extreme exceptions). I think this would be a better solution.

I can say for sure though that I hope that Swinson's irresponsible a** never gets elected to anything ever again unless the alternative is actually worse.
January 18, 2025 at 1:09 AM
The sad thing is is that I was a fan of the Lib Dems and Swinson. I still am a fan of the Lib Dems but seeing how they put power ahead of stoping Brexit really hurt.

We are only human and prone to simple mistakes that can have big consequences. That's why it's so important to let people confirm what they say they wanted when they vote to make a big change. But rather than giving the British people that chance, the government took advantage.
January 18, 2025 at 12:38 AM
I'm not from UK but I'm glad to see that you don't hold it against them. The referendum was a fluke and I don't think it's what the people really wanted. These mistakes happen to everyone. Instead of making sure that's what they wanted, their government just ran with it, pressing their own agenda.
January 18, 2025 at 12:37 AM
I also used to think that trump's first election was a fluke. But...
January 17, 2025 at 10:59 PM
This would also be a step in direction I want, unification between the UK, Canada, Australia and blue states (New Zealand would not be compatible with full unification).
January 17, 2025 at 7:52 PM
If trump wants minerals, all he has to do is look in his head.
