5/9 Also dating from 1863 but of international gauge is the Furness No. 20, belonging to the Ribble Steam Railway. It has been perfectly restored and maintained, with a boiler manufactured in 1998.

4/9 Which is the oldest narrow gauge locomotive still in service? It's the Prince from 1863! You can see it at @festrail.bsky.social, but it was also featured at The Greatest Gathering, where it pulled a passenger train on a special track alongside Trangkil No. 4.

Renfe suspends ticket sales on the Avlo Madrid-Barcelona after a crack was detected in the bogie of a Talgo Avril. Its max. speed has been limited on a section that is not in good condition.

BREAKING NEWS! Between September 7 and 9, 2027, #InnoTrans will hold its first edition in Asia, in Singapore. It will be a new trade fair complementary to Berlin, with similar characteristics but oriented to the Asia-Pacific market.

Today was a special day in Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal. For the first time, an electric train, the 2285 unit, has arrived at the border town on a test trip of electrification. Thanks to José Miguel Vidal for the recording and to Francisco Feria for his help!

Today, @alstom.bsky.social has unveiled the new Renfe 452 series with Rodalies livery. These new Coradia HC trains will be used for commuter services in Barcelona and Madrid from 2026. Combining single and double-deck coaches, will carry up to 900 passengers at 140 kmph.

This morning, British TransPennine Express began electric operation on the Manchester Victoria - Stalybridge section. The Class 802 (Nova 1) trains have started using the electrification of this section, carried out as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) programme.

The Greek city of Thessaloniki inaugurated its first two metro lines on Saturday, the country's first with GoA 4 ATO. The new network has 9.6 km of track and 13 stations, and uses CBTC and Hitachi Rail trains. It will eliminate 56,000 cars daily and 77,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

German RMV announces temporary replacement of its iLint hydrogen trains with Lint41 diesel trains on the RB15 Taunus line. The substitution will begin in January to allow Alstom to carry out a refurbishment to improve the reliability of the iLint trains, which have been experiencing problems.

Louise Haigh resigns as UK Transport Secretary after it was revealed that she pleaded guilty to fraud a decade ago. She reported a work mobile phone stolen in a mugging that, in the end, was at her home. Heidi Alexander, until now Justice Secretary, replaces her.

Spanish Metrovalencia will partially resume metro service on 3 December following the floods. Lines 3, 5 and 9 will operate normally, whilst lines 1, 2 and 7 will have limited routes, as the network will not be opened south of Sant Isidre nor between Paterna and Llíria stations.

The Zaragoza City Council will study extending tram line 1 to Royo Villanova Hospital and Arcosur. The project, with an estimated cost of £146 million, aims to improve connectivity. Its technical and economic feasibility will be analysed.

Trinity Metro of Fort Worth, TX, has ordered four FLIRT diesel trains from Stadler for the TEXRail service. They will be delivered in 2027 to improve off-peak frequencies to 30 minutes. This enhancement is in response to the service's success, which has transported over 3 million people since 2019.

Spanish FGV will begin metro line tests in Valencia next week after installing a new Control Centre at Machado workshops. The process will determine when trains can safely resume on lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Service is expected to restart in December, except València Sud-Castelló section.

Metro de Madrid has contracted dMol to scrap 373 obsolete cars from Series 2000 and 5000, plus auxiliary vehicles, for €2.61 million. This will free up space for 80 new trains from CAF. The project includes reusing usable parts for active trains. Photo: © FERNANDO FANJUL.

Barcelona's TRAM service has extended to Verdaguer, connecting Glòries Square to Verdaguer in the Eixample district. This 2km extension, part of a larger project to unite the city's tram networks, adds three new stations and is expected to serve 24,000 daily passengers, reducing car traffic.
