Forest. Structure. Space. Identity.
This is where tactics meet Trent-side tradition. Breaking down the beautiful game one match at a time. #TrentEndTactico
Pure guesswork this week. However, after Ange stated that change will be gradual in his presser, I am going for the below.

One forced change due to Aina 🤕, and the increased mobility in the double pivot with the integration of Luiz 🇧🇷.

Looking forward to this one.

New Analysis: A Cross To Nowhere

Ola Aina attempted 7 crosses vs West Ham.
0 found their mark.

I break down 5 of those moments — the decisions, execution, and what it tells us about Forest’s attacking structure.

RT's appreciated.

Deconstructing Ola Aina's 0% cross completion vs. West Ham.

The crossroads - the result today may well have zero impact on the discussions to be held over the break. However, the regression which is we are witnissing below paired with the relationship breakdown - could well see talks going in a different direction.

This is massively highlighted when focusing on the below visual - we created just two key passes from 50 passes in either zone 14 or the half spaces - compared to West Ham's three from 16.

We closed the game with 25 sequences which had over 10+ passes. However, both Bowen and Diouf both had double the threat of any Forest player via the pass.

Our inability to break down the block showed again.

This compact shape provided us with freedom on the flanks. However, our ability to only complete 10% of our crosses meant that this freedom would not hurt our opponents.

Far too often crosses were delivered not first time - often deliveries lacked pace, making it easy to defend.
August 31, 2025 at 6:05 PM
West Ham had a game plan - there was an initial ambition to keep it tight and compact centrally. This is reflected in the 'dominating zone' visual.

West Ham only looking for outlets in the space left down the flanks, space outside our rest defence.

Space which Sangare struggles to defend.

As you can see Forest not only had plenty of the ball - they also dominated the field tilt statistic - showing the majority of play was inside the West Ham half.

However, as we demonstrated last year - possession doesn't direclty corroloate to goals. West Ham created more shots, xG, and goals.

Today was not the way to enter an International break - especially if Nuno is to hold crunch talks with Evangelos Marinakis during the down time.

As I said earlier - the game wasn't a smash and grab from West Ham - it was more of a case of Forest stuck in 1st gear.

A lacklustre first-half in which Forest have failed to get out of first gear.

West Ham more than comfertable to stay compact and look like they'd settle for a point.

Anderson - on track for another top tier performance. Most touches and defensive contributions thus far.

A very different task is at hand today for Milenkovic - the past two games he's duelled against a physical profile (Thiago, Mateta).

Jarrod Bowen will provide a much different threat - his movements up top will look to create space for Paquetá and Fernandes to exploit.

Can't see why Nuno would look to make any changes to the starting lineup tomorrow, especially as players will be off on international duty after the game.

Expect to see more rotation after the break - especially as we will be juggling three competitions at that point.

Three players have been highlighted at the final phase - communication could have been the key between Anderson and Sangare who both picked up the same man.

Whilst Aina lacked that central defender instinct in the area to extinguish the threat.
August 25, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Munoz in possession, we still have the key scoring zone under control. Forest have a 3v3 in the central area - more importantly all players are goal side.

If they were all able to lock on - it would have made the chance for Sarr significantly harder to convert.
August 25, 2025 at 7:03 PM
A lack of decisiveness from both Sangare and CHO provided Wharton all the time in the world to play his pass into Munoz.

Given the action was in the first half, it is hard to place this error down to mental fatigue. Let's call it rustiness being game week 2 and all.
August 25, 2025 at 7:03 PM
The moment MGW lost the ball we should have had enough defensive cover to stop the chance from being created.

We had superiority within the key scoring zone, outnumbering Palace by two players (6 vs 4).
August 25, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Ndoye took plenty of stick on this platform for his first half performance.

However, I'd very much doubt if you will see a better assist this season - My thought is this was exactly the kind of early ball he was craving for himself.

Showing exactly how the early switch works.

There were many examples of this build-up strategy across the duration of the first half. However, in order to make this play effective it relies on one key fundamental...

THE SWITCH

Far too many times in the first half - once Palace's defence was committed - we failed to act.
August 25, 2025 at 1:56 PM
The 'Team Dominating Zone' visual paired with the 'Passing Network' really highlights this point, showing the clear intent in the build-up strategy.

The aim was for Forests two CM and the number 10 to create a numerical superiority against Palace's two man midfield.

Tactical Battle: 4231 vs. 3421.

Overload and Isolate - How Nuno looked to gain the edge by attacking down the flanks.

Make no mistake - I'd fully expect Tuchel to include Anderson in his World Cup squad - the real question is how many of his team mates will be with him on the plane?

Keen to hear your thoughts on this one? We have quite the contingent these days...
August 24, 2025 at 7:22 PM
Anderson's market value is sky-rocketing and there is no doubt that when @transfermarkt.com next update their valuations we will again see a significant price increase.
August 24, 2025 at 7:22 PM
His outputs across the last 365 days again add significant evidence to his contributions in-game.

*expect to see the possession outputs increase over time due to the new game model implemented via Nuno at Forest.

ALL ACTION ANDERSON

Taking a closer look at his in-game actions you'll see the 22 year-old's zones of action span from box-to-box.

He has a unique ability to influence the game both in and out of possession, along with the technical skill to progress via pass or dribble.
