In Frank Oz's Little Shop of Horrors (1986), a strange and exotic plant develops a taste for human blood and ambitions for more.
 Set in a shabby corner of downtown New York, the movie radiates a theatrical flair from the very beginning – campy touches and queer undertones included. The scenery also acts as a perfect backdrop for a monster B-movie. The cast does a good job, especially Ellen Greene, and there are some inspired casting choices throughout. But the real star is without a doubt Audrey II, brought to life by insane puppetry and the voice of Levi Stubbs.

In Erik Blomberg's The White Reindeer (1952), yearning for her absent husband, a woman turns to magic to become irresistible in hopes of luring him back. She leaves a trail of bodies instead. The whole movie feels like a glimpse into a forgotten time: not only was it made in the fifties, but it also portrays the rarely depicted Sámi culture and folklore. The beautiful black-and-white cinematography underscores the otherworldly atmosphere. Dialogue is used sparsely, giving way to exaggerated gestures and expressions to carry much of the storytelling. After a refusal to help a ship in distress, an isolated fishing community faces the wrath of a Draugr in Thordur Palsson's The Damned (2024). The Icelandic seaside serves as a fitting backdrop to this supernatural tale. Limiting the sets to just a few locations adds to the hostile, isolated atmosphere, which the camera uses to craft some striking imagery – especially the night scenes around the shipyard.
