Chess Coach in London, occasionally still playing the game when I can.
First two Classical games in months at the 4NCL this weekend. Scored 1 / 2, with over 10 hours played and almost 170 moves (both as Black)
Interesting position from my win; the computer initially thinks White is better, but after more time it goes to 0.00 - what is the correct move/plan for B here?

A solid 5.5/8 in today's Titled Tuesday. First one using Proctor, and did struggle a bit when short on time.

The Dutch did a bit better though, including winning this position; White hasn't quite managed to blockade everything yet...

Finished on 8/11. Some luck, with 7 Whites - and a storming 7/7 for 1.f4 including wins over Shankland.

The Dutch was much shakier, but still a nice win over Jonas Bjerre. #chess

Up to 6/7 in #TitledTuesday today!

3/4 so far in #TitledTuesday - 3 wins for 1.f4 and a loss in the Dutch.

I've been playing a bit more 960, and it's fun to see the mess that can be created very quickly. I was pleased to set up this trapped queen trick today:

Going to give the Chess960 event a go - it seems I have an old rating that's about to take a hit!

Critical position from my game - White to play (I was Black), and we have about 5min each.

After a few weeks off, I gave Titled Tuesday another go. Much less dramatic this time, but happy with the finish to my final game of the year:
Happy New Year!

When they refuse to take accept a draw in dead endgame.

I think I'm in trouble after round 6 win! 6/7 now though

School is out. Titled Tuesday is in.

It seems I was wrong - Ding has come out fighting and is still in this match. Can he take his chance? #DingGukesh

Game 11 of #GukeshDing is 🔥
December 8, 2024 at 12:08 PM
After 15...g6? Gukesh has some interesting options. 16.a4 makes sense, but there's also 16.Nd2 Ncxd3 17.Qe4 Nc5 18.b6! Qd6 19.Qb1 with very unclear play.

With 7.Re1 Gukesh continues his trend to not pressure for an opening edge, and instead challenge Ding to solve new problems.
This will gain him a lead on the clock, but so far with Ding Liren has responded well with Black and generally had good chances. Will that change today?

I like Ding Liren's prep today. It looks innocuous at first, but after 11.Nfd2 the engine line for Black to equalise is: 11...e5, 12.Nxe4 dxe4 13.Qxc5 Qg6 14.Nd2 Qxg2 15.0-0-0

All that time in school chess clubs, reminding kids how to properly develop their pieces - ruined! #DingGukesh

Concerning signs for Gukesh early on in this match. He's clearly an amazing calculator, but he seems to be playing moves many top players would reject on intuition:
15.g5?! in game 3 and 30.Qc2? (instead of Bc5) in game 1.

I quite like 9.g4 from Gukesh, seems to put on some early pressure - with less risk than 10.g4 in game 1. #DingGukesh #Chess
